Friends of the children of Chernobyl

Moore and Roscommon Branch

The Moore and Roscommon branch of the Friends of the Children of Chernobyl was set up in November 2001 as a sibling branch of many others throughout the country. Since then we have brought children to the parish of Moore each summer. The few members of our group are Michael Cregg, Eileen Murray, Mary Downey, Margaret Shine and Imelda Glynn. Even though we are a small group in a small area, we have worked very well together and have always raised enough funds to bring the children from Belarus to Moore each year. We have had the same interpreter, Ira, coming with the children each year since we started the group. Ira now lives in Ireland and has married a Ballinasloe man - we wish Ira and Noel the very best of luck. We did not bring children to Ireland this year but hope to undertake fundraising to get involved in a project in Belarus.
